Live, Give, Grow, Owe Debt, Owe Tax
Our pie is our income resources. No matter how big our pie there are only five ways to slice it. The slices can be categorized as a slice to be used to pay for our living expenses (Live). Another slice represents what we give to church, to charity and to others (Give). The third slice is what we put aside for our savings (Grow). A fourth slice is used to pay our debts (Owe Debt) and the fifth slice pays our taxes (Owe Tax). These are clearly not equal slices. That means that if we want to increase the size of one slice, other slices will have to be decreased.
And it also means that every spending decision we make is a spiritual decision. For example, if we want to buy a new car, we need to determine how we will pay for it. Do we have enough money in our savings slice to pay for the car or will we take out a loan? If we take out a loan, that means the debt slice just got bigger. What other slice or slices got smaller as a result of that decision?
